Competition
stories.
Notes from the international competitions Ferdi flew in 2025, in his own words.
Spain · Algodonales
The first competition of the season and one of the highest-qualification events. He was the only competitor from Turkey with enough points to be selected. On a 114 km task they followed the Strait of Gibraltar and the African coast and landed on the beach.
China · Linzhou
A competition they entered with four pilots from Turkey, with a demanding launch site and impressive scenery. After the event, at the invitation of a follower, the team flew in a wind tunnel and visited the Shaolin Temple.
Brazil · Castelo
His first Category 1 world championship. Tasks of over 100 km were flown under a very low cloud base. On one task he attacked from about 9 km behind the lead group and moved ahead of the group in the last 7 km; with 3 km to go he was passed because of an equipment difference and finished the task in 7th place, 13 seconds behind the winner.
Teaching approach
“We don’t just teach flying,
we teach how to be a pilot.”
The principle Ferdi Toy set when founding the academy is simple: a student should graduate not as someone who has memorised launch and landing, but as a pilot who reads the air, knows their equipment and makes their own decisions.
That is why ground training before P2 at the academy lasts 3–5 days, the instructors are listed by name, and each student’s progress is recorded in the portal. Ferdi Toy takes part in the courses personally as an instructor and teaches the acro courses himself.
